Matt Furness started playing drums at the age of 8 studying the Rockschool exams which has given Matt the experience and ability to play many different genres. He completed his Grade 8 at the age of 14, passing with a distinction, and encourages his drum students to follow a similar path.

You might have seen him play at the Norwich Jazz Jam where he was the resident drummer for 8 years from the age of 14. Playing there enabled Matt to play with experienced professional musicians gaining invaluable experience in a jam session without the benefit of extensive preparation. He is now able to bring these skills to your project, or his teaching for the benefit of his students.

Matt plays with the Clare Free band, The Mojo Preachers, The Claire Barker Band, Led Free and Company and works as a session drummer depping with bands, in addition to performing as a pit musician for musical productions being a competent reader. Recent productions include ‘Grease’, ‘9 to 5’, ‘Hairspray’ and ‘Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert’.

He has played and headlined at the famous 100 Club and performed at Upton Blues Festival, HRH Blues and the Great British Rhythm & Blues Festival.

For your peace of mind, Matt is a member of the Musician’s Union which includes Public Liability insurance covering all his drumming activities, and also has an updated enhanced DBS check in place.
